University Blvd (MD 193) BUS LANE
On May 22, 2025, the Maryland Department of Transportation, in partmenrship with the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) and the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority (WMATA), which operates Metro Bus, announced that the University Boulevard Bus Lane Pilot would be made permanent. The pilot, which ran for 12 months and began on Feb. 19, 2024, studied the red dedicated bus lanes on University Boulevard, between Amherst Avenue and Dennis Avenue.
This effort is a part of MCDOT's Bus Priority Project initiative. During the pilot period, MCDOT painted hte lanes red and evaluated bus lane operations, improvements in passenger travel times, service reliability, customer experience, and motorist compliance.
What are Dedicated Bus Lanes?
